Friend posted about a hockey player in Van who plays for a US team. After all, t'is his job, play hockey. And how he and his family get harrassed, food thrown at them, their church vandalized, the guy gets sucker punched because he plays for Team X not Y.

And this is what I fucking hate about hockey (sports) people tie so much of their fucking identity about their city to whatever team is local. Vancouver? You guys fucking riot on a dime, and you take this bullshit to a level that is just ridiculous. No one gives a goddamn shit about your team but you.

Someone in the thread posted "he can't just play for an opposing team and expect a warm welcome in his home town!"

Asshole. Stupid petty tribalism. (and I am grateful that when the Maple Leafs inevitably lose as we are usually doing, no one fucking riots. People have a good time watching and then get the fuck over it.)

I do really hate how much of the Canadian Identity seems to be tied to hockey though. Ugh. fuck it.
