Sep. 16th, 2013 10:06 pmSo sunday I got to the studio with my gear and found the bench the tech office had "reserved" for me. In theory. I was just setting in to work when this guy comes up to me and starts barking questions at me, who was I? Did I belong there? Did I know that was someone else's bench?
But here's the dumb thing, he didn't give me a half second to even answer before going off on me. Someone else piped up and vouched for me at least as I just gave up even trying to get a word in. I swear, people have shit communication skill in that this is the second time I've been barraged with questions to which no one wants the answers.
So here's hoping there's a bench tomorrow for me to work at. I'm getting just a bit annoyed at this, and I'll talk to S and WK the program heads about how much grief I got for using an un occupied at the time bench. I get that they need to ask questions but dude, step off a notch.
Went out today with Stirling, got photos printed for his great grandma, my oma, and a card for her, and a box of thank you cards for the rest of the gifts, except they're teensy and so I need to find larger envelopes to enclose a photo with them.
Tomorrow, mail oma's card, swing by the jewelery supply place on the way to the college, and hopefully find a place and means to get some work done. Gem dealer's there at 4, and I plan on buying, as well.
I still can't believe they think they can accept last minute fulltimers into the program when the first project is due on the 24th ( fuuuuuuuck. I'm about half done anyway I got lots done on Sunday at least.) There's another guy there who is well past the 3rd yr there and STILL HAS A FUCKING BENCH. COme on, he's graduated or so I thought so what the fuck is he doing there?
Stirling's 13lb and 24 inches long now, he's getting so long. He's in the 75th percentile for body weight and 95th for his big ol Murray head, and he's not all rolls of chub, he's long and filled in tho. It was a bit surprising to hear a friend's year old is 17lb. I get that there's variance but OMG my child is a monster! ack. hehee. Just startling. Both kids are healthy, so no worries. It all works out in the end.
And the wee weirdo is giggling in his sleep. Watching his development day by day, week by week is fascinating as he starts mastering grabbing on to objects, tracking, lifting his head. He's not this bundle of floppy helplessness as much, he's actually starting to interact with the world and its kind of a trip to watch.
Still flouting much of the modern dos and don'ts set down by mommymartyrs and sanctimommy sorts. He's never in danger ( despite his fondness for pulling blankets over his own face, and being very content to sleep that way), but I reject the neurotic over reactionary parenting that seems to be the IN thing now. I notice when we go out, he's got sun and breezes while other people bundle up the kid in summer heat and throw an extra blanket OVER the top of the stroller, thereby encasing the child I guess in some sort of fluffy pod. He likes to SEE the world, till he nods off anyway.
Anyway. The stress over the bench issue is making me ill. No lie. I'm really freaking aggravated and I have this and two more assignments due this term so it better get sorted or I'll be right choked off.I get that I'm not taking a full complement of classes this term ( will next semester) so come on, gimme a goddamn bench. We have 5 studios with about 30-40 benches in each. They take in SO many people at the start who wash out by mid term, and the instructors can't deal with the workload either. Program has a 60% drop rate because they take anyone, really.
