When i was out at dinner with Paulette the other night, we were comparing middle east travel experiences, in light of my pointing out the tardball on facebook the extreme christian making burqa jokes... ( funny, someone making cracks about oppression of women whilst his own isn't much different, hyuk!)

And while I didn't see anyone in full on burqa in israel, only hijab really, I have seen women here in near full on, give dirty foul stares to a younger pair of girls, one in jean skirt and leggings and hijab, one in hijab and long skirt. The glare was at the long skirted girl. We thought it odd and "whoa if looks could kill."

Paullette asks "did you get followed to the washroom by ninjas?" ninjas? The women in burqas. Apparently in Saudi and bahrain, and dubai they'd follow paullette in and curse at her and spit at her, presumably for her western appearance or lack of burqa since the non ninjas didn't do it, she figures.

Which kind of brings to mind the rotten thing where I know women wear certain things, sometimes by choice, sometimes because someone ELSE orders it, and uh, sometimes because other women are forcing it.

Of course its easy to say its the men, but yeah.

Paulette was never bothered by any of the men when she was in those areas, only the ninjas.
