Sep. 18th, 2013 01:26 pmNext week Stirling gets his first round of vaccinations. I'll breathe a sigh of relief, because every time we take him out, there's always a bit of "what if" in my head. We couldn't very well be completely housebound for almost three months, mind you.
To me, the science is clear, they're safe. My sister's a rabid antivaxxer though I think her kid has had some of his shots, but if not that's on her and them. Its only by good fortune the kid's not come down with Whooping cough or mumps which still roam around on a fairly steady basis.
Mom was so apologetic for taking Stirling to Sick Kids ( hospital) for thrush, but all the walk ins and our GP was closed that weekend, and I suspect Kim has gotten after Mom for taking D to emerg when he's been sick. Kim is fucking stupid, however.
So I know Stirling won't be thrilled to be injected, the boy fairly howls his damn head off when he punched my iphone once. That said, I never understood parents denying their kids vital shots because they don't like needles. No one does, but that's not a reason to refuse them, like the current new trend of refusing Vit. K at birth because they don't want a needle! ( ok, baby can risk brain bleeds instead!), it smacks of a certain immaturity. I don't like to see Stirling in any pain, but this is nessesary stuff for his health.
It'll be over quick enough, give him a cuddle and his soother and he'll be over it by the time we get out the front door of the clinic.
