Jul. 21st, 2011 04:53 pmits 37c plus humidex today. the big whopper of a heatwave. It was 33c by the time I took the dog out at 930 am.
Im sure there's a few people who'd hold up this as evidence that Toronto lives on the hellmouth but y'know, I kind of like having...seasons in their proper place. Fall is pretty here, and winter isn't SO bad, we get a couple cold snaps and its not the 8 months of cold that people are convinced we get. ( I still think they confuse NORTHERN ontario with southern, and they're different beasts altogether.)
I missed spring this year having hopped to NL for their summer.
But yeah, its not all bad. Its pretty tolerable most of the time with the metro and the path and we generally don't have to suffer being outside for hours. I find myself even embracing winter a bit. The dog loves it, and that alone makes it kind of fun.
( I do get a slight kick out of the cold summer the west is getting, over the adamant protest from people no longer in contact with me who insisted the westcoast was a paradise where bad weather never happened.)
And as much as I loathe the mayor, I'm not alone! and R pointed out TO will need us folk when the Lard Mayor and his halfwit bro are gone. Fair nuff. The tide is turning fast on those two, and I think its unlikely he'll be able to serve out a term, either he'll have to step down, or he'll just go on being contrarian and ineffective. The timeline for his changes are long, and whatever doesn't get done in the next year will run out of time before his term is up.
he's not expected to be a 2 termer, when the burbies discover that cuts mean their curbside garbage and snow removal on short notice and "toxic taxi" garbage pickup services go, or library programs go. They're about to get a very hard lesson in "this is what your city does for you, and you just assume the funding comes from fairies."
It still just boggles the mind that we have a mayor who orders people to shut up and stomps out of council and refuses to hear the comments from the citizens he was chosen to lead.
But I think....things will change. By the end of the year when the numbers really don't add up, he's going to have a lot to answer for and already, he has no answers.
**
loafing in the super-ac'd apt, and i have a ring order to write up and a book to work on, and half finished chain to do, and I'm in so much pain that I'm just meh about it all. I hate these pain days, it means nothing gets done for 2-4 days a month.
And adequate pain control? unlikely.
Ah well.
