Today everything is closed for some random holiday that I can't figure out. Seriously NETHERLANDS THE STAT CLOSURES OMGWTF??????I'm so moving here. Retail clerks can SIT DOWN at the till and you get all these days OFF??????

Seriously. making cashiers stand is fucking stupid for 8-16 hours. Gimme a fucking chair. It doesn't seem to affect the way things work, and I wouldn't have so many knee/back/foot problems....

Anyway.

So my plans to see some stuff got scrubbed due to that, and to an abrupt forgetting that my left ankle is so damaged that it cannot turn side to side or rotate, and I freaking saw stars with the pain, and ankle was HOWLING throbbing. So the day after I get back, I'll go get it looked at and go, YES, i have been walking on it for three weeks. Not like I had a choice, and yes it isn't much better since the original slip off the step in london.

I leave in...5 days. The concept is now as surreal as the days before I left toronto for this merry nutty adventure.

Gonna go study, write, stay off gimpy ankle and possibly intervene on a Yorkie vs Crow battle raging outside. So far as I can tell its all them having "words".

So on zoo day I tried to use as MUCH dutch as possible, even if it was only one word answers. Joy of it all, no one really expects full proper sentences in most day to day interactions, le rock.

And I did it too.:D

Occasionally when confronted with a new situation, I have to use english, and for some reason, ordering at burger king or mc'ds....english is easier. I don't know why. But then, ordering in english in canada also seems to be a hit and miss prospect too....

The crazy italian-german girl in my class, it seems, uses words that don't exist in dutch, and she was arguing WITH the instructor. Clearly, girl is fluent in english and dutch, because she keeps correcting ALL Of us.

She jokingly hit me on the shoulder but really fucking hard. I said "ouch" and...she did it again.

No lie, I really will be glad to never see her again. everyone else in the class is cool but yarg, this woman....

Anyway. things to do, so off i go. enough LJ blitherings. On Sunday I'll lug my suitcase down. The only way I see it getting down safely on the dutch stairs of doom is if i cart it down empty and then move the contents. Getting it UP here was a challenge.

( modern dutch stairways are bigger now, this set and the one in bemmel are of a very old school hair raisingly narrow sort.)
