Went downtown yesterday for jewelery supplies, to a pointless visit to the canadian revenue weirdos, and lunch with R.

Lots of walking. Which is good. This "diet" seems to be slowly paying off, but clothes still don't fit because lo, they don't seem to size sleeves up, at ALL> its the same pattern piece for all of em, because fuck me, are they using the venus de milo as a fit model?

Clearly we have issues.

Got the ontario drivers manual and study guide as well.

And a sleepless night thanks to needydog.

this is why we have anti hate speech laws:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Keegstra

You're free to say what you like.

We're free to hold you responsible.

No, the government doesn't censor opinions. Just the usual anti semitism, homophobia, racism. Beyond those three you pretty much have free reign.

I think it's more than fair in a society that wants to be civil that we don't give platforms to extremists. It's probably why we don't have a canadian Beck, or Rush.

But I sure hear a lot of US folk caterwauling that this is somehow oppressive when Coulter whines after being gently informed that we have different laws in canada, and her american ones don't apply.

We're not your fucking hat, Anne. Take note.

Good grief. I can still call Harper "ol dead eyes" of a prime minister and jackbooted soldiers don't kick in my door. Hasn't happened, won't happen.

I grew up not far from where Keegstra taught, and lived in the general region when he was on trial. To put it kindly, his views aren't entirely uncommon in Alberta, there's still racist, jackass morons here and they're free to bleat until they take it public.

No one's saying they can't, they just might face being responsible.

Put another way, My freedom ends where someone else's begins. I can't demand freedoms at the expense of another, and some of this stuff crosses that line.
