Nov. 16th, 2013 12:17 pmre read my own erotica novella from 18 months ago and I'm still happy with how it reads. ( of course writer me is always "i could have changed some stuff..." Hands off!)
I got my ebook thing set up sort of on my ipad, though it seems reluctant to download the full book, yet tells me it has. I grabbed a copy for curiousity sake of one of the big 50 shades knockoffs (finding ebooks that have availability is a whole OTHER bucket of wax).
It's bad. Not even in a good way bad. Its bad like bad like that thing in the back of the fridge bad. Its not escapist or fantasy ( though I may be the odd one here). Its Ultrahunk with a fat bank account and bulgypants and ultra powerful and again, the woman in the really powerless submissive naive role who transforms him with luv. This weird persistent set up almost all her books are basically this trope because hey I guess if it sells like shit tons, run with it. You can blast those suckers out by the multitudes.
I've read that this sort of fantasy appeals to many women since for the longest time, and well, even still there's this perception that women are reluctant partipants in sex in way that they are told not to voice their own needs or desires, that would mean you're a brazen hussy, and by having the Manlyman take the reins, it absolves them( women) of the responsibility or consequence of their own wants. Its OK if he demands it and takes it, not if you ask for it.
Its probably why consent and safeword aren't generally woven into the story. In the Lilies novella, I made it something they play with in a fun, caring manner, even. Its woven into the story. I didn't write it as a deliberate reaction to the 50 shades lack of consent and care, but it really is different. I like it. My readers sure seem to enjoy having smoking hot happy erotica on their hands too.
I couldn't make Turning night fit the Paranormal romance "template" and while the few places I sent it they liked it but never took it on any further, I decided to write it as I saw fit, not to fit their guidelines.
And the horrid 50 shades knockoff? My app only grabbed a couple chapters but the way she writes sex is infuriating. A lot of "clenching" and labia that "flutter." I'm not a doctor but if your labia flutter you'd probably best see a doctor, not carry on with Hunky Meatpants. The absolutely ODD way they describe anatomy and response is just so...odd. I mean, 50 shades she simply refers to much below the neck as "there", "down there".
Because we can't apparently have women responding honestly to stimulation and I guess we'd better not use actual words either. And yet this shit sells by the truckload. I just don't get it.
Fluttering, man. Seriously?????
