I add: Ask me where you can download my work for free, on the internets, y'know. Look shocked when I tell you I alone hold the power to gift that. ( and I do, quite easily, but I was befuddled at her assumption that it was all online for free. Rant aside, I know a lot of people who won't pony up a couple bucks for content on line like apps or novels or albums. They can bite me.)

2.barge up to me at a writer fair and declare you're thinking of writing a book so how does this self pub thing work anyway? Bonus points if you imply it's a manifesto of sorts. Or a historical epic. Or your biography. (Side note: why does every writer group I join populated by people writing their manifesto, their biography or some vaguely racist historical epic, or at best, a bizarre sci fi novel?)

3. Barge up to me at a writer fair and demand to know, in a hostile snotty tone as you gesture at my table "WHAT ARE THESE?" They're books, chucklebutt.

4. Brag to me that you're writing your piece in longhand because that's what real writers do.

5. Don't leave any kind of review. Even when offered free book in turn for a review.

6. If I've promoted your work in past and bought your work in past, don't return the favor in any way ( my current grief. I get that some people can't buy up ALL the works, but y'know a promo bump is free and easy. Go on. Give it a shot. I've seen you do it.)

7. declare angrily to me that you don't read, or you don't read my kind of work. (manners will do. I get what I write isn't everyone's cup o' wax but why be annoyed at ME for it? imma gonna have to declare back "I don't listen to music".and no, I can't audiobook it for just one person. get real.)

8. Declare that self publishing is simply for losers because there's no quality control. ( Ok, so mega publishers churning out Snookie's bio is quality, and what of all those indie bands and artists, they can produce under no banner of label or publisher but writers have to? Huh.)
