Aug. 4th, 2012 09:00 pmSo freaking busy leading up to con.
But a huge chunk of the prep list rolled in this week, art from V, our locking Ipad stand, my corsets, got blank price tags for all the merch, got hair dye ordered, got last ring order in to finish pieces, got business cards, buttons, postcards done. ( bus cards for jewelery, button/postcards for books.)
I have a bit of work left to do on the novella, and we're just hanging on cover art finalizing layout for the novel.
I had a momentary "OMGZORS" over the novella, realizing how much it's plot-driven erotica and OMG people will think I'm crazy and pervy, and weird. But then, why is sex so much more a shocker than an average slasher horror? As GRRM noted last week, why is sex worse than violence?
Frankly, if you have an issue with the sex, and you're ok with the violence, in my view that's really not my problem. I could write a 12 month/chapter novella of slash and gore and no one would bat a damn eye. make it 12 torrid little nights over a year with a pair of immortal lovers and suddenly its perverse and smut. Everyone goes home happy and alive. how is this bad?
So yeah. I don't mind writing violence as a part of the story line and sex scenes too, when they fit plot. And they do. Characters use it as bonding, as feeding, as keeping their humanity, as comfort. And for the novel, it WAS just a one off but the plot outside that bedroom becomes as important as what they do.
It just goes so deliciously fun. What could be so wrong with that? Nothing, I say. Its not obligatory reading in the world I've created, you could skip it and go on with the novels. The next novella won't be so, I have a few ideas, the novellas are supplementary little things. And frankly a chance for me to play.
So yeah. Off to write some kink.
