Jul. 6th, 2012 01:11 amFinished the dutch class. Probably didn't pass. Do I care? not really. its con ed. i won't get the cute certificate, but I'm over it.
We handed in course evals today and I did my presentation and she was "hey you kept it simple" and of course, because I'm tired of her pick pick pick. Its 2 minutes, it was 4 questions. Whatev. Later she'd go YOURS WAS TOOO SIMPLE! and all this term she's been snippy and huffy towards me and I'm like, what the everloving fuck did I do to you?
Turns out its that post menopausal thing where they just develop a random hate on for me. I have that effect, you see. I swear. Time and time and time again. Near as I can tell, its this intense dislike older women have for my very existence.
I was getting annoyed at her scattershot teaching weeks ago, and I said 'if you're giving us grammar work pages from a book I know has a corresponding page of examples and how to, then give us that too" and she said "no. figure it out."
well that hasn't worked and I said "i tried, its a con ed class and there's only so much time it gets out of my life."
She simply refused to teach the grammar and its higher level than anything before and people retake this level over and over.
Today at the end I said "this has been frustrating, since your notes on the board have little to do with anything ever, and we don't get any grammar instruction, only told to go work it out and guess what, not a single text/reference/note/website I've used ever describes what you want, but you won't teach it, and you won't give us that worksheet page." She tried to blame it on me missing a class, the first one. Was all the grammar in that one? She then said "you should have said something earlier.'
I said "I DID." But she again, doesn't teach the topic. I get doing the work but I'm paying you to goddamn fucking TEACH and when you fill a 3 hr class with cute games and random bits and this and that and no real consistency or structure, then dump this worksheet on us? are you fucking kidding me?
the class every week: a small wad of handouts of things cut ( literally) cut and pasted and copied and sometimes cut off. A page from this book and that, with no real context. A hodgepodge, a word game, things that confused all of us. She'd explain it in rapid fire dutch and we'd STILL be lost. It was this shifting tasks every ten minutes and no real method.
Of course when we asked for things to help we got the brush off.
And today I stood my ground only to get blamed for my own failure to spend 40 hours a week on dutch grammar.
Right. So I'm emailing the school tomorrow and saying this is an issue. And I don't care if I open up the biggest fucking can of worms but seriously. TEACH THE FUCKING GRAMMAR.
I was so fucking livid when I left. I just cannot get why so many instructors feel their job is to half arse it and I could have done a better job just NOT going to that class and saving myself the money. I won't see a refund but I really really think she's just got no idea how to teach this level.
