Mar. 15th, 2012 08:03 pmA semi productive day in the studio. Got much of my pendant done. Some people really didn't THINK their design out at all. its a 10% mark. Its not 50. Got the obligatory "academic warning" letter, even if it doesn't have the "danger of failing/thing not handed in" stuff listed, because wait, I'm neither. Go fuck yerselves.
Cyril sent some fab stock shots, just what's needed.:D
Study tonight, for about an hour and a half, and do some writing, and some chain work. Order to ship monday.
Reading about a twilight kink fanfic that got the name change, and sold gazillions, and now is in book deal/movie dev. I just cannot fucking grasp this. Yay you sold lots. Cribbing off the work of someone else. I just DO not buy that fanfic is a skilled art, for the most part. Its prepackaged salad of character, dialog, setting and the most often thing I hear is "I don't have to worry about ALL THAT to write! It teaches me the writerly chops!" no. No it doesn't.
I don't even fucking claim to have the best writerly skills of ALL TIME but I can stand and say "this is MY work and and my universe and MY characters and MINE ALONE." I did the research. i did the thinking, the heavy lifting.
( saw a few lines of it and good gods, people cannot write dialogue well as far as I can see, it comes out completely cludged. I do confess this: I write good dialogue. ( and this has been said so many times.)
BUT AUGHG FUCKIN FANFICCERS. I get that you want to get some play time in, but I guess I draw lines at publishing that shit. And posting it, to some degree, reads to me as this ego stroking affair, you crib off the waiting audience. I have to build mine from scratch and someone else can saunter in, lift my work, my ideas, my universe, slap something up and get accolades but I'll be perceived the bitch for not wanting my work fanfic'd.
I just don't buy it. No.
Song for the day: Provision: visualize.
