Today, feeling more human, I decided to go to the Frans Hals museum, which houses mostly the old school lavish 16th-17th century religious paintings, including baby jeebus with like, washboard abs.

It was neat, I'm more interested in the technique and color and overall, than the theme of things, since it seems all you were allowed to paint then was religious stuff. Including one of a monk squeezing a nun's tit. Way fucking weird.

I managed to order coffee, and follow the cashier at the entrance's quick run down of what was open or not. I can infact, understand spoken dutch more and more, but yeah, some people are forever going to be incomprehensible.:D

However, I wanted to take the bus, because it was a good hour's walk and I got to the station, but then which to take? in true dutch style, they said it was a 15 min walk, ( lies) but I did get there. I twisted my ankle outside the station, on a small lip of a curb, and splat, found myself again going HELLO DUTCH LAND.

I seem to be making something of a habit of this.

Browsed HEMA on the way back, eyed things of much want. I love the use of color and design in their stuff and will be bringing back some things. We in canada are so fearful of bold design, or color. NO really we are, work in a fabric store, and its "BLAND PLZ! NO COLOR NAO"

I really do like it here, I like the activity, I like the color and the nature and the old and the new. I'm going to miss that in canada, it's all "balcony empty, no colored curtains, tuck it away, don't say hi." ( it's pretty much standard here that even strangers passing and making eye contact is "hoi!/hello/goededag" just as a courtesy, not as a noseypants mcnoserson.

And the wee dog from next door threw himself at me in wiggly puppy joy as I gave him a friendly scritch on the head. Not humping my leg but a "I'm SO GLAD TO SEE YOU". And now I know what size wooden shoe to send him in, hhahahaha.

I can see why amsterdammers are moving here, because its such a short hop out of the city....another 10 minutes and you're at Zandvoort, which is all beachy as far as I can tell.

I don't know if I'll do koningenndag in Amsterdam or here. I'm a bit wary of the massive crush of crowd in a language I'm not fluent in yet....It'll be big wherever I go, so I don't think it matters.

( well, except bemmel, perhaps, my relatives there are the very epitome of conservatively buttoned up. Gyack.)

Anyway. emails to send, and studying to do. I ache from all the walking and the fall, but the walking and the diet of sorts has turned out some results, legs slimmer, some weight loss in the middle, thanks prednisone for that, it's ALL weight gain in the middle with that stuff. Things fit better. A ways to go yet, but I do have like, 6 more weeks.

There's a few more museums here to take in and I will certainly have my use out of that pass before I go. at around 10 euro a pop for museum entry? if you're ever in the netherlands longer than 5 days, get the museum card, not the touristy ones. You'll get a better deal from it.
