Apr. 16th, 2011 01:27 pmToday woke up for the first time in a month with the allergy brain fog. Everything's bloomin, and so they have a parade, the Bloemencorso, and we're off to that tonight. I'm enjoying a dose of culture and experience with the studying.
While I'm here I DO want to check out bikes. I'd love to have one in TO, and the only options there are junkers from Canadian Tire, or spendier ones from shops. If I look around I think I can find just the right one. I'd love one from here, even the cheaper ones are far better built than the canadian cheapies.
I may have to rent one for an afternoon or something. Coeline says she has an older, smaller framed one to lend which would solve my problems. everyone here is profoundly longlegged, and I am not! So we'll see. I think part of the Bemmel bike splat was that Chris had over-greased things so a tap on the brakes and it was TOO grabby, as well as the handlebars being nearly at my knees, because the seat wouldn't lower either. All around a bad fit. A pity, it was a beautiful bike.
Will almost certainly get a set of bags, since they have mondo cute ones for cheap, they go for 100's in canada. Ouchie. I do like how lots of people here personalize it with decals, and flowers, and that baskets and such are SO common. I might miss the cycle crazy country a lot. Toronto is still considerably hostile to city cyclists, even if realistically, it shouldn't have to be one or the other. I can get a bike, and take up 1/3 of the room, or a car. Your choice, suckers.
Got more studying in, and will return to that shortly, after having had a much needed nap.
I do think I'll also do laundry at a laundromat, since I can't reach the line to hang dry, and in spring, hello pollen magnets...I am still good for a few more days yet, cash is DEMONICALLY tight, and I guess I could hang things indoors if need be. ( I do not like line dried clothes, they're usually crunchy and kinda dusty.)
Ok, off to go study. if I find a cheap perfect bike here it may warrant importing. We'll see.
