Good day

Finally getting some brain-refreshing sleep, not the shattered trainwreck of late. Suddenly, my brain feels....awake and clear and good. I could take on ALL the universe!

Went to the gym last nite for a 20 min swim. Hah, now I can see where the 40lbs is. Erk. Ok. Noted.

Today we went to the AGO, R wanted to check out the Julian Schnabel exhibit on its last day. ( and as i think is game for him, gets a gentle, firm reminder from staff over photography. le sigh). Good exhibit, actually. Did a quick pass through the new Maharajah exhibit, its GORGEOUS but cripes it was over crowded since they just kept shoehorning people in, and so we'll certainly return for a more leisurely look.

On the way out, we overhead a snippy blonde bitch snap at a docent "Don't JUST POINT ME IN THE DIRECTION SHOW ME." Like, seriously where are your manners? Appalled at the behavior, we kind of went whoa, and moved on.

Browsed a bit more of the galleries, and then on to lunch, and we went to the members only ( la la!) cafe, having never been before. A couple people in the place, which was packed, were letting their young kids get underfoot, not something I'd consider really gallery behavior.

Here's history: my mom raised me with a somewhat STERN expectation of behavior in the big ol outside world, thing called...MANNERS. What flies at Mickey D's won't fly at the AGO member cafe. Oh lordy no. I knew this well and it has served me well.

Now I'm not a saint. I've gotten snippy with staff in places on occasion, but its something I do try more often than not, to NOT do. ( and usually only in places where it really has to push to the very screaming end of incompetency. and now even still, I'll handle it without using someone else to give me a feeling of power.)

The hostess welcomed us in, and said 'Take a seat, it's table service, they'll be by in a moment." we found a table, and they were in fact, BY in a moment.

We were perusing the menus when 2nd snippy blonde bitch ( they were really out in force today) pesters the staff at the counter for coffee. They're slammed busy and tell her that there's a table ahead of her and if she'd JUST sit, they'd get to her. Repeat this 3 more times by the time we ordered.

Here's the other thing: members? being a member to a place such as the AGO or ROM, while not cheap, is not exhorbitant, or some hereditary privilege. Its around $100 a month and you get some perks like "unlimited entry. separate express lines. discount, members lounge and cafe."

It doesn't say anywhere on my pass "treat the staff like your own personal whipping boy." or "you are now entitled beyond all reason."

But hey, we got served by a great( and cheerful but verging on frazzled) waitress. Tipped well.

I had a faaantastic smoked salmon/cream cheese and pea shoot croissant sandwich, R a quiche. A chai latte for me and a double espresso for him. FUnny: the AGO is rather fond of pea shoots, But they're REALLY GOOD! NOM!

SO yeah a great day for us aside from the watching of adults behaving badly.
