Next payday, or soon, R wants his own ipod touch ( i have to nearly wrestle mine away.)

Buahaha he can see the horror that is Dartmouth Crossing. A shopping area you don't KNOW is a shopping area until you're practically on top of it. brilliantly, it's also in something of a valley, and there's a painful lack of signage all around, so I only assume it's part of the "soviet era" look that halifax is occassionally going for, what with most of the swimming pools underground or in windowless "bunkers", and the odd grey-green of half the steel structures (silos and bridge) into downtown.

Dreary.

Tuesday: Laundry, some cleaning, write my last genetics lab report ( an easy one, we're told), and study.

I am going to assume now that I'm working the backshift ( ahem, graveyard shift) saturdays because I don't anticipate the new hire coming in.

There are 4 pigeons on the balcony. By now the egglets should have hatched. Checking, though,is not easy.

Funny thing about the "we're not mean to CFAs!", it isn't obvious at first, but we've gotten it from all ages, and usually in the form of either a sudden cold shoulder, or snide comment, yet people deny it happens, but the first time you do something they don't like, they snarl, "you're just one of those CFAs!" Like we're here on their gracious permission or something.

There isn't a damn thing that would keep me in this place.

R was googling rentals in TO, and while they're smaller than what we have here, they're in downtown TO, with AMENITIES. A pool. A GYM for tenants!, transit! clubs that aren't assfreezing cold ( who doesn't fucking heat a club in November, honest to fuck!) and better pay for the same job. It slightly fries my ass that transit passes here cost the same, if not more than Vancouver for a fraction of the service, and wages for the same job are higher in Van.

Love when someone will say "it's so awesome here!!!" in the same breath also listing exactly the same issues we have. ( shit transit and job opps.)

Meanwhile back in Van, a friend of ours is leasing up old buildings, turning them into indie art gallery/work spaces for below market and actually DOING Shit. JUST try to do that here, and people'd shit bricks over "oh noes change is bad".

When someone says they have 2 degrees and couldn't find work, and only earn 11 an hour, it's NOT a selling point. ( I earned a shade under 13 an hour in van, no degree required.)

I swear, drink the water here long enough and people start acting like moving to halifax is like joining a cult.

Vancouver has its flaws, but at least we have some variety between greyhair and hipster indie kid and hippie.

it has occured to me I've done half an oceanography minor ( with my best marks ever), but not once have we actually gone near the ocean.

This seems wrong somehow. It also makes the University of Wales at Bangor program, which is almost exclusively marine sciences, damn tempting as it's very much hands on smack on the water.
